Warwick Chamber of Trade – notes from last meeting 27th February

Warwick Court House.

No decision yet on the future of this. Warwick Castle are in the bidding looking to develop it as a conference and event venue but there is noise related issues to resolve. Not sure when a decision will be made.

High Street Traffic Calming

The council have completed the installation of bendy signs to replace the ones that were continuously being knocked over. They have also done some skid testing on the “temporary” surfaces that we put down last year after the original cobbled surfaces disintegrated and have announced that they are not intending to do anything further. Will be followed up at the forthcoming Warwick Traffic Forum meeting.

Discussions on the outsourcing of parking surveillance continue. Linear charging to start in May. Looking into possibilities around business parking permits for town centre car parks.

Operation Footfall.

The County Council have allocated £400k to projects to promote increased footfall in Warwickshire towns. Up to £30K available per project. Two bids being prepared for Warwick, one for a Food and Film festival in late August and one for a St. George’s Day and 1100 years of Warwick celebration in 2014. No confirmation on either at this stage but would be interested in sponsors and support.

Other Events

Cliff Richard playing at the Castle on the 8th June. Summer concerts then planned for the 12th and 13th and (possibly) 14th July. Tickets for Summer Prom on the 13th already on sale. Yet to confirm acts for other dates.
